Recap of May 2018 & Congratulations!

Here we are almost halfway through June and we are finally able to take some time to reflect back on our whirlwind of a May.  It was an outstanding month, filled with lessons and clinics, dressage shows, and horse trials.  Our team competed solidly and stepped up their game in really hitting the ground running to start the season.

The first week of May included clinics with Jane Bartle-Wilson and Tori Polonitza, followed by the Silverwood Farm Eventing Derby.  An intense training week, but a successful one, our horses and their riders were well prepared.  Kaitlyn Maro competed on her own horse, La Ferrari, in their Training level debut together.  The pair ended with a 3rd place finish and a confidence building round!  Megan Waelti competed on the Waelti-BSH Syndicate horse, Tripple Reward, in the Novice Division.  This was his Novice competition debut and he took it with ease, completing the weekend with a 4th place finish.  Gabrielle Ortiz competed on her horse, The Chief, and finished their Junior Novice round in 2nd place!  Lastly, Caroline Bowman competed on her pony, Toy Story.  This adorable pair had great dressage rides, improving their score greatly over the weekend on the second derby day.

The following weekend our team returned to Silverwood Farm for the Dressage Show series.  Bonnie competed on 3 horses this weekend -- Maisey Star, owned by BSH, in Third-1 and Third-2; Steel Driven Dreams, owned by Carrie Bedore, in Training-2 and Training-3; and Mira Mazerrati in First-1 and First-2.  Amelia Wilber competed on Maisey Star in the Equitation class.  John Vitek competed on his horse, Double-Oh-Seven, in their first competition of the year in Training-1 and Training-2 and had some great learning moments!  Lastly, Jessica Franklin rode her BSH leased horse, Stryder, in her first Dressage show, completing some spectacular rides and building an even stronger connection with Stryder.  Team BSH had a wonderful and very successful weekend, with Maisey Star being awarded Highpoint Champion.

Back on the road the following weekend, Team BSH traveled to Otter Creek Farm to compete in the Spring Otter Creek HT.  This would be our first HT of the season.  Even with the lack of training opportunities due to very wet weather leading up to the event, our horses performed confidently.  Bonnie rode both La Ferrari and Tripple Reward at the event, putting on some great rides and training moments.

Both horses put in very solid Dressage rides in the large Open Novice class.  Unfortunately, during XC Tripple Reward took a bad step as he jumped fence 3 on course.  Bonnie made the decision to retire him from the course to better assess him and ensure his well-being.  Thankfully, he trotted up just fine later that evening and was able to do a courtesy SJ round where he went double clear!

La Ferrari was sitting at a three way tie after Dressage for 1st place.  He ran easily on the XC course, going double clear and proving that he was ready to make his move-up the following weekend.  On Sunday, he jumped flawlessly and went double clear to finish on his Dressage score and win the Open Novice division!

Finishing up a strong competition month, our team headed to the KY Horse Park to compete at the May-Daze HT.  Again, Bonnie would compete both La Ferrari and Tripple Reward.  La Ferrari completed his very first Training Level HT while Tripple Reward completed his first full HT in the Novice Horse Division.

At the completion of the event, we took advantage of some extra training opportunities (and good weather!) to school the XC course.  Kaitlyn and Megan were both able to ride their horses on course -- a dream for both of them!  Megan will return to the KY Horse Park with Tripple Reward in October to compete in the Retired Racehorse Project TB Makeover.

We want to congratulate all of Team BSH and their successes this month!  You have done a phenomenal job with your training, your dedication, and your ambition to be great, while always putting the horse first!  We couldn't be more proud of everyone.  A big thank you to all of our sponsors -- Work Horse Muscle Therapy for always making sure our horses feel their best, Devoucoux for outstanding saddle fit and Majyk Equipe for the utmost leg protection!

Lastly and very importantly, we would like to extend our biggest CONGRATULATIONS to BSH rider Lisa Lach on her wedding and marriage to Patrick Grunewald!  We couldn't be more excited for you and the start of your life together!

For those of you that don't know the story, Patrick proposed to Lisa last year at Rolex with Bruce Davidson as their witness!  A few of our team visited that now doubly memorable spot the week before her wedding, along with the Rolex jump they danced on shortly after getting engaged!  Cheers to you Lisa & Patrick! Lots of love from the entire BSH team!

Congratulations to Lisa and Patrick!  6/9/18

Saturday Dressage:

Waelti/BSH Syndicate horse, Tripple Reward, presented in his 2nd ever show post-track life.  He was tied for 4th after his BN-A test in a field of 19 horses.  Jessica Franklin made her eventing debut with her BSH-leased horse, Stryder.  The pair also rode in BN-A and had a great first test together.  They were sitting in 7th after their ride.  Gabrielle Ortiz and her new eventing partner, The Chief, rode in the BN-B division.  They had some great moments and were 7th after their test.  Lastly, Bonnie rode Kaitlyn Maro's horse, La Ferrari, in the Training Division to start the weekend off in 2nd place.

Saturday Derby Round 1:
Tripple Reward continued to show his promise as a strong eventing prospect going into his first jumping round.  He boldly entered the stadium course and finished with just 4 jumping faults after having one rail.

Jessica and Stryder went double clear in their first jumping round!  They jumped collected and confidently around the course, moving up to 3rd place.

Gabrielle and The Chief soared through their course, moving up to 6th after a double clear round.  They were all smiles walking out, building a strong base for this new partnership.

Bonnie and La Ferrari also jumped double clear.  This was La Ferrari's Training level debut and he showed that he has some serious scope and then some over the fences.

Sunday Derby Round 2:

After a solid jumping round on day 1, Tripple Reward brought even more to day 2.  He jumped clear with only a few time faults added to his score.  This moved him up to finish the competition in 5th place.  We continue to be excited for this OTTB and his progress in the transition to his new career.

In her eventing debut, it is clear we can say that Jessica and Stryder will be a pair to watch this season as they grow together as a team.  They jumped clear, also adding a few time faults, but finished strongly in 2nd place.

You still couldn't wipe Gabrielle's smile on day 2! She piloted The Chief to a great finish in their second round, placing 7th for their division.  The pair also competed in the move-up challenge and took on their first Novice competition course together.

Kaitlyn Maro had an incredibly proud moment watching Bonnie compete her horse to a 2nd place finish as well as Highpoint Thoroughbred for their division!  They also competed in the move-up challenge and La Ferrari continued to make jumping look effortless as he took on the Prelim fences.

#teambowmansporthorse continues to show their tenacity and we look forward to their strong competition season ahead!

We will be headed to the Silverwood Eventing Derby next!

Recap of the Tori Polonitza Clinic

When you see the words, "Tori Polonitza Clinic" written up on the board at Hidden View Farm, you maybe have 24 hours to get your and your horse's name signed up for a spot.  Our team LOVES when Tori comes to town.  It was no surprise that our team braved the cold and we had all 16 time slots filled, with several horse/rider pairs taking more than one lesson.  Tori is a phenomenal clinician.  She has an impressive eye on the ground and a way with analogies that help riders understand difficult concepts easily through her teaching.

Tori is out of Ft Meyers, FL at her farm, Jasmine Spring Farms.  She currently has 2 horses:   Serefina MRF currently competing at 4th Level and bringing along her 5-year-old Whitney MRF in first level.  She trains with Kathy Connelly.

Below is a small clip of BSH's very own, Maisey Star, schooling half passes during day 2 of the clinic.

Team BSH is Headed to the RRP Thoroughbred Makeover 2018!

Congratulations to Megan Waelti and her new OTTB, Tripple Reward! The team was officially accepted to compete at the Thoroughbred Makeover at the Kentucky Horse Park this October.  Megan and "Tripp" are among 794 other trainers that have been accepted to compete.  Be sure to check back to follow their progress this season.

Thanks for an incredible 2017 Season

Team BSH had quite the 2017 show season:

  • 21 first place finishes, including 1st place finish at the USEA Area IV Eventing Championships
  • 12 second place finishes
  • 14 third place finishes
  • 4 fourth place finishes
  • 4 fifth place finishes

We couldn't be more proud of our horse and rider teams.  A huge congrats to all the hard work that YOU all put into your riding, both in the tack and out.  All the long hours, the sweat and tears, the set backs, the comebacks, the frustrating rides soon followed by the inspiring ones with big breakthroughs -- YOU DID IT!  You committed to all the lessons and training sessions.  You signed up for every clinic we could offer, taking multiple rides with top trainers across the country to better your riding and skills as true horsewomen and horsemen.  All of you are what make this work, and I could not ask for a better team to stand beside me.  Here is to you, your horses, and an incredible 2018 show season ahead.
